Cheating Husbands Should Be Whipped?
In many parts of the world, women are held accountable for instances of infidelity in many horrible ways, up to and including death (go Mohammed!). However, in the Brunei section of Borneo Island, which oddly enough is itself predominantly Muslim, many citizens wish to turn the tables. In a poll conducted by website www.brudirect.com 76% of people who responded said that they would like to see men whipped for cheating, while only (ha!) 55% want to see this happen to cheating women.
As far as I’m concerned, Borneo is the home of the most awesome monkey on the planet, so I’ll generally cut them some slack. But the poll-takers are way off base with this shit. For one thing, if 76% want the punishment for men, and 55% want the punishment for women, that means that there were a good number of individuals who said yes to one, and no to the other, thus implicitly supporting different punishments for men and women for the same “crime”.
We as individuals have the right to discriminate based on whatever criteria we want. If I open a store for example, and I don’t want to let the coloreds in, it’s my right not to. A government, which would be the body distributing this punishment, does not have this right. At no time should a government give discriminatory sentences or punishment based on a criminal’s gender, race, religion, age, sexual orientation, physical disability, or any other “grouping” characteristic. And only the most complete and utter morons would ever wish them to. Additionally, adultery is a civil matter, not a criminal one, and no punishment beyond the awarding of monetary damages should ever happen as a result of a civil matter.
Now, I’m not saying that island nations shouldn’t have their own governments. They’re sovereign states, and should probably be left to govern themselves rather than having Team America bust in or whatever. But take note that this is what happens when they are allowed to. Fucking savages; it’s no wonder WWE portrays them the way they do. So I ask the readers: Where do you stand on corporal punishment in general? Do you think it’s equally good or bad regardless of the gender of the criminal? And do you think adultery should be a crime of any sort?

But it was just a poll, right? A poll of public opinion with nothing to do with the government, right? So, if it went up for vote then the people would vote in what they wanted (the majority, at least).
Is the government preparing to make this a law? Whippings for husband and slaps on the wrist for women? If so, you’re right, it’s a step back regarding equality in the world but if this is just (as you said) a POLL, then…who cares what they think? They’re just not as progressive as the good old USofA…right?
You’re right, but the problem is that public opinion generally ends up shaping law in one way or another, whether voted on directly via referendum, or entered into law via politicians voted in by the people because of their proposed policies. So stupid public opinions, in the end, can very easily lead to stupid laws.
That very well may be true but my advice to you is…don’t fucking go to Borneo and be a cheater and you’ll be fine.
I forgot to answer your questions:
I feel fine about corporal punishment…but, I also think it should fit the crime….Hmmm… Gender specific, though? Well, in this country…no. But because women have fought for so long to have rights, etc, etc…we should have the same punishments as men for the same crimes also.
Adultery? No. It’s a personal thing…as long as there are no other laws broken, I don’t see the harm in it (except on the family/relationship/kids…stuff like that). I’m not saying adultery is OK….it just shouldn’t be punishable by LAW.
I think that cheating husbands should be given a high five. And most women should have to wear burkas unless they are hot in which case they should wear nothing. And if you are a woman reading this get off the net and cook me dinner, stat!
Adultery should most certainly not be a matter of law. The pain and turmoil it causes in those people’s personal lives is punishment enough, in most cases. As for corporal punishment…I don’t know. In most instances it appears to be ineffective but some people just don’t want to listen to reason and need their asses kicked. It should be made an option maybe, let’s say, to take off some prison time or in lieu of a fine. The amount of time shaved off or how much you pay of your fine is in direct relation to the amount of physical punishment your willing to take.
So, let’s say…you’re Bernie Madoff. I’d let him out of jail if he was willing to be a quadriplegic. It couldn’t be surgically done; his immobility would have to be the result of 5 MMA fighters going at him at once or a powerbomb over a suspended i-beam. But that’s an extreme case. Lesser crimes like, oh let’s say, shoplifting would result having somebody get their hands stepped on, or something. The important thing here is that you have the option.
I agree with Seattle Freeze, too. Women have fought for their right to be treated equally so let them be punished equally so no, corporal punishment shouldn’t be gender specific.
